Case Study: Clayton Church Homes – Prospect Residences
January 2025
Client: Clayton Church Homes
Location: Prospect, Adelaide, SA
Electrical Contractor / System Integrator: Innovative Cabling
Project Stats:
• zencontrol DALI-2 automation retrofitted to existing corridor lighting
• zencontrol sensors, relays, dimmer drivers and rotary switches
• 3-channel DALI controllers throughout
• Scheduled daytime brightness and low-level night dimming
• Motion-triggered brightness restore (5-minute hold)

When Clayton Church Homes undertook a refurbishment of their Prospect aged-care facility, the goal was clear: reduce energy costs without replacing the entire lighting system. Our partners at Innovative Cabling delivered exactly that, adding zencontrol DALI-2 automation to the existing corridor lighting, a minimal-disruption upgrade that achieved significant results without the cost or complexity of a full installation.
The system works simply and effectively. During the day, corridor lighting runs at normal brightness via scheduling. After hours, lights dim to a low hold level. When motion is detected, lighting returns to full brightness for five minutes before stepping back down. This eliminates the long-standing issue of lights remaining on overnight and delivers measurable energy savings across the facility. Behaviour and schedules can be adjusted remotely through zencontrol Cloud, and the system is ready to integrate with a BMS if needed in the future.
DALI was chosen for its flexibility and ability to overlay automation onto the existing lighting infrastructure, avoiding the cost of new luminaires. zencontrol was selected for being cost-effective while offering equal or better functionality than more expensive alternatives. This project demonstrates that DALI lighting control doesn’t always require a ground-up installation. With the right approach, it can modernise an existing aged-care facility affordably, efficiently and with minimal disruption to residents and staff.
