The Light Horse Logistics Hub is a large-scale industrial facility developed for ALDI Australia in Sydney, forming part of a project targeting a 6 Star Green Star Design and As-Built rating, one of the most stringent sustainability benchmarks in the sector. Our partners at Technology On Tap, working alongside lighting designer Ex La Luche and electrical contractor Modcol, implemented a zencontrol DALI lighting control system across the ALDI tenancy.
The 10,596 sqm warehouse presented a common challenge in large industrial environments: running cabling across vast open spaces is costly and time-consuming. The solution combined wired DALI control in the cool room areas with wireless zencontrol controllers deployed throughout the main warehouse floor, significantly reducing cabling, installation time and associated costs. Occupancy sensors and daylight harvesting operate across all zones, automatically adjusting or switching off artificial lighting when natural light is sufficient or no movement is detected. Dynalite switches were integrated via a DALI gateway, demonstrating the interoperability that makes DALI a practical choice even in mixed-system environments.
DALI was selected by the lighting designer for its flexibility, scalability and support for advanced control strategies in large industrial buildings. The combination of wired and wireless DALI, paired with zencontrol, delivered a system capable of meeting both the operational demands of an ALDI distribution centre and the energy efficiency requirements of a 6 Star Green Star building. This project is a compelling example of how DALI can drive sustainable outcomes at scale in Australia’s industrial and logistics sector.
